Succession advice

More time for my grandchildren. But what is going to happen to my staff?

Corporate succession has to be planned thoroughly and in the long term, that much is obvious – but how can this be done in practice? The optimization of the fiscal framework is just one of many aspects to be considered.

Who is able and willing to manage my company? How will the ownership be arranged? Is this fair for all the children? How can I protect my own financial interests?

With family-owned companies, the emotional attachment to the company as well as the relationship between the parties involved has to be taken into considerationl. Succession within the family has to be approached in a different way than, for example, the sale of the company or the transfer to the previous or new external managing directors (MBO/MBI). Alternatively, should the company be managed by external managing directors and the family members as shareholders?

When is the right time, and what effects will my decision have on my business partners? How will this influence my rating, and thus, the company’s financial standing?

Depending on the answers to these and many other questions you are asking yourself, we will

  • work with you to develop a contract of inheritance that is optimized in terms of tax and inheritance law,
  • assist you with the search for a suitable external managing director and the corresponding restructuring of your company,
  • integrate the financial burden from compensation payments and inheritance tax into a business plan, and
  • prepare the company for the sale and work with you to develop a concept for the best possible asset structure.
